Are you expected to tip for a spa gift package?
For my birthday, I got a gift card package with a facial, massage, and salt scrub at an expensive spa here in NY. I've heard that the tip is usually included in the purchase price of gift packages...it would add up to almost a hundred dollars if i were to tip myself, that seems weird for something that's supposed to be a gift. But I would hate to leave someone without their tip. So am I expected to tip the attendants or is it covered in the package price?

- Rule of thumb :always tip. GOD BLESS
- Well, if there is a possibility that the tip is included, then you could call the spa and ask them to make sure.
- I don't believe a gift card includes a tip, just like a gift card for a restaurant. Tips are to be given according to how good the service is. 15% -20% in the norm. You could call and ask the spa if your not sure. E
- You should always leave some tip. But call the spa before you go and ask in advance. Then you can adjust the amount of the tip. Always remember that these are people who work in the service industy and the tipping is proper etiquette.
- Give what is hard to give and not what you are told to do or expected to do.
- Regardless of a coupon, discount, gift card or gift certificate, you should always tip for services rendered -- tip in the amount you normally would depending on the quality of the services. The tip is not always in the gift card for spa packages -- I know they do not do it in the Spa where I perform Reiki....the gift certificate is simply for the service itself. I understand your point about the spa package being a gift -- but you still should provide a tip if you're happy with the services....just as you would do if you were paying for the entire bill yourself. And have a great time at the spa!
- Well I was in that situation and when I tried to tip they wouldn't let me and informed me everything was taken care of. Perhaps it depends on the place. You might call ahead just so you know their expectations and you don't slight anyone or have confusion.
